Artist Statement
Using paint and compelling forms, I make a myriad of paintings, drawings, installations, and time-based works. My art dances at the crossroads of popular culture, politics, social justice, and Blackness, illuminating the rich narratives about the beauty and complexity of Black identity. Through my work, I breathe life into questions around race, equality, and the human experience, urging the world to pause and recognize the extraordinary within the ordinary. I delve into the visual essence of Black culture, crafting figures within narratives that hopefully spark dialogue and reflection. Recently, I’ve turned my gaze to portraits and storytelling that celebrate the beauty of Black existence, shifting the focus from traumas to triumphs.
