Artist Statement
My art-making is process-driven. I am inspired by the unexpected and complex images that emerge from layering media. Such interactions free me from the intent to produce representational images - often a goal in early work. My art is intuitive, labor intensive, unpredictable, and revisionary. Explorations with media and techniques promise artistic growth, spontaneity, PROBLEMS - which lead to further explorations, and endless PLAY! I tend to work in series. I believe artworks have multiple meanings, depending on the viewer. I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from Missouri’s Truman State University, and a PH.D in Art Education from the Ohio State University. Additional studies at the Kansas City Art Institute, The Columbus College of Art and Design, The Design Institute of Columbus, The Ohio State University Colleges of Landscape Architecture and Industrial Design, The Columbus Cultural Arts Center, and regional and national Surface Design workshops inform my work. After years in Arts Education, I “came home" to making my own art. For years I was a juried member at Studios on High Gallery, Columbus, Ohio. I also worked with other-abled adults as a volunteer with the Columbus Goodwill Art Studio and Gallery. My multi-media, 2-D works hang in corporate and private collections.
