Artist Statement
To me painting is a combination of my training in art and in science. My intention is to produce an impression of the colors, light, and atmosphere that surround us. The initial stage of a painting is quite methodical including selection of subject matter, choice of materials, and conceptualizing the composition. This process represents the “science” that goes into each painting. However the creative process requires more than mechanics. The art component is not easily quantifiable but experience has taught me to work quickly and have several paintings going simultaneously. Finished paintings rely heavily on instinct and emotion.
As an artist, I am inspired by the beauty of Cape Cod, a place that I consider my true home away from home. My love of the Cape began over 50 years ago, and my passion for painting the landscape of the Cape continues today. It is my hope to capture the essence of the mysterious beauty found there, and to somehow share that sense of place with others through my work.
