Artist Statement
Inspired by the serene beauty of nature and the intricate elegance of architecture, my work seeks to capture the essence of these influences through the delicate medium of paper. I find myself drawn to repetitive patterns and architectural details—such as ornate cornices and intricate tile floors—translating their forms and textures into my creations. At the heart of my practice lies a deep exploration of materiality and process. Each piece begins with a drawing on the backside of the first layer, a whispered promise of what’s to come. I then build upon this foundation with layers of paint, embarking on a meticulous handcutting journey with an X-Acto knife. This unfolding process allows each layer to breathe, as the paint reflects and dances with light, illuminating shadows in vibrant hues. By flipping each layer and spacing them with foam board, I create a captivating interplay of light and depth, inviting viewers to engage with my work from multiple perspectives. My artistic journey is guided by a spirit of wonder and a commitment to experimentation. I embrace risk, pouring time and energy into each piece as I push and pull layers, always searching for new ways to evoke emotion and meaning. Every day in the studio is a new adventure, a canvas for exploration where I build upon the knowledge of past works, allowing each experience to guide my next steps. By harnessing the intrinsic qualities of my materials, I strive to transform the viewer's perception of paper and paint, inviting a deeper appreciation for their tactile and visual poetry.
