Artist Statement
I create oil paintings, collages, and graphite drawings, from life, that explore the beauty of shapes and edges.
My work often starts abstract, with lines and forms gradually coming together as I build each piece. It is a very intentional process. My goal is to weave together shape, value, color, and mark-making into a dynamic visual experience. While I enjoy watching my work evolve into recognizable images, I’m more focused on crafting pleasing patterns.
I am inspired by the charm of old places, the character in worn faces, the uniqueness of imperfect bodies, and the rawness of ungentrified urban spaces. I’m far more captivated by these than by traditional notions of beauty. I am always learning to look beyond the obvious, diving deeper into the essence of each subject.
